About Us

The Global Marina Institute maintains and increases standards in marinas across the world. 

A partnership between leading marine member organisations

The Global Marina Institute Ltd was formed in 2011 as a partnership between British Marine and Marina Industries Association to deliver global marina training and certification with the aim of maintaining and increasing standards in Marinas across the world. The two organisations work together to maintain existing certifications and to develop new certification pathways and training courses to meet the needs of both existing marinas and Marinas developing around the World

Partnership organisations

British Marine is the trade association for the leisure, superyacht and small commercial marine industry.

We represent businesses involved in:

  • Leisure boats – seagoing and inland
  • Small commercial workboats up to 24m
  • Superyachts
  • Hire fleets


And all the equipment and services needed for those craft.

Our members come from around 4,200 businesses in today’s UK leisure, superyacht and small commercial marine markets. The turnover of those markets is worth £2.963 billion

Marina Industries Association (MIA) is the peak industry body in Australia for the owners, managers and operators of marinas, slipways, boatyards, berthing, mooring, marine storage facilities and sailing and cruising boating clubs.

MIA Members enjoy direct, national and global connections with both industry and Government organisations.

The Marina Industry Association’s mission is to support the sustainable development of the marina industries through education, accreditation and research programmes.

GMI Board Members

The GMI Board currently comprises four members from each of the founding partners and an independent Chairman. The Board meets at least twice a year and sets the strategy and direction for the Institute.
